SpainSophia Al-Maria will participate in the 32nd Bienal de Arte de Pontevedra with the inclusion of her  video work BEAST TYPE SONG (2019) and the sculpture Telephone to Heaven (2022).

The 32nd Bienal de Arte de Pontevedra, returning after a 15-year hiatus, will take place from June 21 to September 30, 2025. Curated by Antón Castro, this edition features 60 artists from 28 countries, focusing on themes of war, peace, and human resilience under the motto “Being Human Again. Regarding the Pain of Others.”

Spread across 12 venues throughout the city, the Biennial will foster dialogue between violence and peace, migrations and exiles, as well as between the darkness of war and the light of hope. It proposes a mixture of diverse voices and languages, with contributions from more than sixty artists from various countries, including some from conflict zones, whose works address themes such as spirituality, love, tolerance, truth, and utopia.

Participating artists include Olafur Eliasson, Hans Haacke, Susan Philipsz, Emily Jacir, Antoni Muntadas, Francesc Torres, Farida El-Gazzar, Patrice Warrener, Eva Koťátková, Arvin Golrokh, Wardha Shabbir, Raida Adon, Abou-bacar Traoré, Marina Núñez, Manuel Casimiro, Lois Patiño, and Almudena Fernández Fariña.
